Experience Adventure Tourism

Another term for you to get excited about! Adventure tourism is a type of niche tourism involving exploration or travel to remote areas, where one is about to experience the unexpected. Rapidly growing, adventure tourism experiences great competition from other outdoor industry types of tourism, but the most important feature, or what is referred to as its unique selling point, is the fact it offers to those seeking unusual vacating times, a radically different perspective from the typical beach resort vacation. With thousands of active vacation specialists, adventure tourism is the fastest-growing sector of tourism and a worldwide trend for adventure travel outfitters. Recommending a variety of trips to countless adventure destinations, from Alaska to Patagonia and beyond, adventure tourism can help you add that extra "spice" to your annual vacation holidays and enjoy the pleasures associated with ranch-based horseback riding, cycling through a wine country, or floating through the deepest canyons of Earth.Through a variety of different organizations and with experts' assistance, interested individuals can enjoy how it feels for example to be a member of an adventure camp community, the satisfaction one enjoys while following the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, the eco-spiritual adventure in the Himalayan Mountains, or learning a foreign language while volunteering for the rebuilt of a village in Central America. The choices and destinations are endless and the only thing you will most certainly need is to follow the advice of professional adventure guides and to be open to experiences that will increase your understanding of the world we live in and will make you less subversive to your child's future choices in life. These special vacation services are usually offered to small groups of people, who have a lust for life and a curiosity for culture and wish to explore adventure tourism's immense capabilities and immerse in the addictive world of adventure travel. Although some tend to confuse adventure tourism with that of extreme tourism -also known as shock tourism- which involves traveling to dangerous destinations or the participation to dangerous events, the adrenaline rush one experiences as an adventurous tourist, is of a lower risk level. Its greater difference is the degree of engagement and professionalism. Thus, before you decide to accept an interesting invitation from that old friend of yours who has disappeared once backpacking in South America, you should better examine the specifics of the amazingly low cost deal he or she offers. Wilderness is not something one should take lightly, especially when it might cost your own life.Source: Free Articles

The Joys of Cyclo Tourism

Cyclo tourism is a hobby that combines tourism and cyclism and is practiced by the cyclo-tourist. The activity consists of discovering new sites, landscapes and places or to visit lands and countries using the bicycle as a means of transportation. Cyclo tourism is not to be confused with long distance sporting racing events such as the Tour de France, it is first and above all a leisure activity, the extra exercise is an added bonus but not the main and only objective of cyclo-tourism. It is however a form of eco tourism.Forms of cyclo tourismCyclo tourism can be characterized by the distance traveled, the length of the trip and the nature of the equipment used. The short excursion consists of a single or a half day ride. It doesn't require any specialized equipment apart from the standard tire repair kit, water bottle and maybe a light snack. The long excursion can be as long as a few hundred kilometers ride with camping equipment, a more extensive bicycle repair kit and special clothing and garments to face the eventuality of changing meteorological conditions. This way a cyclo tourist can circumvent entire countries, cross borders or travel between distant cities. Some cycle tourists even go as far as traveling the world and crossing multiple continents by planning ahead with great precision for any possible eventualities and scenarios. In France and continental Europe a network of roads dedicated to cyclist tourist called "veloroute" is under construction to facilitate the movement of cyclists across Europe. These roads are specially designed to be far away from super highways and high traffic road ways while using common touristic itineraries giving cyclo tourists access to conventional touristic attractions such as camping grounds, museums, restaurants and accommodations. The economical advantages to local economies help to finance and develop the "veloroute".HistoryCyclo tourism was pioneered by Paul Vivie in France in the late 1890's, the first excursions were Lyon-Nice and were executed in less than 24 hours. He is the founder of the 7 commandments of Velocio (cyclo tourism):- Take rare and short breaks- Have numerous light and frequent meals, eat before being hungry and drink before being thirsty- Never push until abnormal fatigue that leads to lack of sleep and appetite- Cover yourself before being too cold and uncover yourself before being too hot- During excursion, limit or eliminate tobacco and alcohol consumptionEquipmentThe bike is the most important element of the cyclist tourist. It must be comfortable and sturdy to accommodate the extra weight required on long excursions. The seat is particularly important because if not suited to long trips it will cause blisters, bruising and pain on long journeys. The frame is usually made of high quality steel from reputable companies such as Reynolds, Vitus or Colombus. Mud flaps must wide and sturdy, ball bearings must be of high quality, saddle bags must be roomy and are often made of high quality leather. Most long excursion bicycles are actually usually custom made to withstand the special and extenuating conditions and circumstances that cyclo tourism can bring. Lighting should be complete with head lamp and break lights, tires must be of high quality and made for both street and moderate off road conditions.Source: Free Articles

Costa Maya: Mexico's New Eco Tourism Hotspot

As the world becomes more and more overcrowded and cities of concrete have evolved to become our natural habitat, the eco-tourism industry has exploded. Eco tourism is a form of tourism focused around natural activities such as scuba diving, rock climbing, and horseback riding. Mexico has been at the forefront of the eco-tourism industry for years and has successfully developed several eco-tourism based vacation destinations, the latest of which is the Costa Maya.If you haven't heard of the Costa Maya, it's a name that will no doubt become as well known as Cancun or Cozumel in the near future. Like Cancun and Cozumel, the Costa Maya region is located along the Caribbean Sea in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. But unlike Cancun, the nightclubs, bars, and skyscraping hotels aren't part of the development plan for the Costa Maya. Instead, the majority of the 57 mile long Costa Maya will be gently developed to retain its Caribbean coastal beauty.Majahual, located toward the southern tip of the Costa Maya, is where most of the structural tourism development is taking place. Once a small, sleepy fishing village, Majahual is now a major focus of the Mexican government's efforts to promote eco-tourism in the area. Like the Mexican government's former tourism expansion projects in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the once sleepy village is quickly growing into a nature-inspired resort town. The name "Costa Maya" literally means, the Mayan Coast. Remnants of this enchanting ancient Mayan culture can be found all over the Yucatan peninsula. There are 5 different Mayan ruin sites located in or near the Costa Maya that will make you feel as if you've taken a step back in time. Other natural adventures include a visit to the numerous freshwater cave pools called ceynotes, beachside horseback riding, and fishing excursions.Running parallel to the Costa Maya coastline is the Meso American Reef, the largest coral reef in the Northern Hemisphere. The warm Caribbean weather and crystal clear waters make snorkeling and scuba diving along the reef an absolutely breathtaking experience. After immersing yourself in the slow motion world of the colorful Caribbean fish, sea turtles, and anemones, you may leave the Costa Maya with a new hobby - or decide never to leave at all.Perhaps the most exciting opportunity in the Costa Maya is the real estate investment potential. The Costa Maya is one of the last remaining stretches of unexploited coastal land anywhere in the Caribbean. Part of the Mexican government's investment in the area included brining power and water to this stretch of beachfront, now zoned for residential living. As the eco-tourism industry in the Costa Maya has grown, so too have the real estate values. At this point in the area's development, beachfront lots are still selling for as little as $50,000 US dollars and are expected to sell for values in excess of $1 million in 10 to 15 years. If you're starting to feel run down by deadlines, schedules, and traffic jams, an eco-tourism adventure in the Costa Maya may be just the thing to revive your spirits. Perhaps you'll find even more than a week-long adventure and stake a permanent claim to your own little slice of Caribbean paradise.Source: Free Articles

Up, Up and Away! Look Forward to Space Travel by 2008

Those who hate to fly would not be thrilled to hear about one of the newest ways to travel: spaceship. It all began back in 1985 when the first non-astronaut, Jake Garn, flew on Discovery from April 12th to April 19th as a specialist. Later, on April 28th, 2001 Dennis Tito became the first space tourist when he paid a fee to visit the International Space Station (ISS) for seven days. He was followed by Mark Shuttleworth, a South African millionaire in 2002 and later by trained scientist Gregory Olsen in 2005 ("Space Tourism."). Since Olsen, no one has traveled to space for recreational purposes, but that is soon about to change.According to Jane Reifert, president of Incredible Adventures, space tourism already has a market. Reifert says that customers at Incredible Adventures enjoy the simulation of weightlessness achieved from a MiG-25 and a modified B-727 conducting certain flight maneuvers (Ebner). This is just a taste of what customers are expected to experience during "personal spaceflight? (the preferred term). Besides weightlessness, seeing Earth from space is among the perks, as many astronauts describe this view as "mind-boggling?. Also, those who enter space will feel as though they are among a privileged few who have had the opportunity to do so ("Space Tourism").So far, the vehicles to make these "suborbital flights? for individuals go up to 160 kilometers above the Earth?s surface. At this stage, weightlessness is obtained and customers would be able to float around for about three to six minuets. Also, they would obtain a chance to view the stars and the curved Earth. Although currently costs can be a high as $200,000, this is expected to drop to under $20,000 over time ("Space Tourism"). It is projected that by 2021, as many as 14,000 passengers will be able to book these flights per year, giving the space travel industry well over $700 million in revenue (Ebner). However, such flights will only occur if they are well within the law. As of today, the US required any company wishing to launch passengers from anywhere is the US to receive a license to do so from the Federal Aviation Administration?s Office of Commercial Space Transportation (FAA/AST) ("Space Tourism."). Also, numerous safety precautions must be taken into consideration before anyone leaves the planet in an orbital. Some of the major issues being looked at are the construction of a spaceport and building a runway long enough to allow for the orbital to get up to speed before liftoff. Also, a large population cannot be around the area where the ships will be taking off. Weather delays may become an issue as well. However, none of these issues seem to deter interest in space travel as a recent study shows that interest in space travel has increased as of late in correlation with the dropping price of orbitals and the new lower training time (Ebner).Currently there are only a few major contenders in the space tourism business; however that number is expected to grow with an increase in interest. Space Adventures sits near the top of the list as it is the only contender that has sent participants into space. Space Adventures was behind all tree paid participants that have traveled to space since 2001 (Ebner). Other companies include Virgin Galactic (part of the Virgin group), Blue Origin, Armadillo Aerospace, XCOR Aerospace, and Rocketplane Limited ("Space Tourism"). These companies hope to have you clamoring to blast off in just two short years. The next step is making these rides as comfortable as possible for the traveler. How do you feel about space orbital food?Works CitedEbner, Kimberley. "Space Tourism: Ready for the Masses?" Malta Tourism Falls Again

Figures just released show a fall in the number of visitors to Malta for the first six months of 2006 compared to the same period last year, adding pressure to the Malta government to secure a deal to allow low cost airlines to fly to the Mediterranean island to reverse the trend. The fall of 2.4 per cent of visitors included a decrease in the important British, French and German markets, but a very welcome increase in Italian tourists.Commenting on the news one local travel guide said that 'if it hadn't been for the increase in visitors from Italy it would have been far worse. The UK, Germany and France still account for nearly two in three holidaymakers coming to Malta, and if these markets decline further the island will become less and less attractive to the tour operators to promote'.Rumours in the island's tourism industry earlier this year suggested that one of the major UK tour operators was considering pulling Malta out of their holiday brochures, which could have led to others taking the same action, but so far these rumours have not become reality. If they were it would have a major impact on Malta's economy.Unemployment is running at over 8 per cent in Malta, and tourism is a major industry and employer. The Malta hotel industry was particularly badly affected by the drop of visitors for January to June, with a near three per cent drop compared to 2006.Malta HotelsThe Malta travel guide also commented on the delay in the introduction of low cost airlines to Malta and the possibility from that of an increase in tourist numbers. With worrying signs that the number of tourists for the whole of 2006 visiting Malta could be similar, or perhaps even down from 2005, the opportunity for the island to have low cost flights operating from the UK appears to have slipped by for the all important summer season. The island's official airline, Air Malta, reported a drop of over two per cent in the number of passengers it carried in the year from March 2005 to March 2006.The hope among hoteliers and others involved in Malta's tourist trade is that at least one of the low cost airlines will start operating from the UK and perhaps other parts of Europe in the near future to boost visitor numbers.'With the holiday market vital to the Malta economy,' comment the guide, 'potentially millions in lost revenue will be lost this year because of delays in agreeing to allow the low cost airlines to fly into Malta. In today's world Malta has to compete with new destinations in Europe as well as Spain and her islands. Cheap Malta flights aren't in themselves enough to sustain tourism at reasonable levels anymore, although this will be welcome, but the trick of sustained tourism is to have repeat business, and unless Malta attracts new first time visitors then repeat business is an impossibility'.Source: Free Articles

Is Hotel The Rich Cousin of Motel?

No one can claim he/she has not stayed in a hotel at least once in life। For those traveling for business, pleasure or for that matter, any other reason, hotels have come to become home away from their homes। Why travelers prefer hotels over motels when all they provide are same? Well, motels by far differ from hotels in their functionality, additional services, and construction. Motels have their room doors opening to exteriors to their driveway while hotel rooms open to interiors. Apart from other regular guest services that hotels provide, you can also plan your business meetings, conferences or even large conventions in some hotels, which is a far cry at motels. What is more, even the locations of hotels are also conveniently located unlike the traditional motels, which invariably cater to highway travelers who just stay by night. The word hotel has originated from French, which referred to townhouse before being known universally as it is today. What Is Star Classification of HotelsThe star classification of hotels indicates the type and quality of service available at any hotel. The enormous explosion of tourism in the last century has necessitated star classification for the benefit of discerning tourist public.International and national tourism agencies along with respective governments rate and classify hotels on a scale of one to five stars. However, if you thought there is a standards body which classifies all the hotels of this world, here, you are in for a surprise. The attempts by interested industry captains have failed thus far and the standardization has been elusive till date. What Do Star Ratings MeanBriefly the ratings mean this:One star: An inexpensive, low budget hotel which may not have maid or room service. Quite affordable by middle classTwo star: Marginally expensive and may have once a day maid serviceThree star: A budget hotel which boasts of maid and room service, internet and health club service in addition to having a swimming poolFour star: Expensive hotels by even middle class travelers; offers many luxury services in addition to afore mentioned servicesFive star: Stands testimony to final word in luxury and are very expensive anywhere in the world. They offer countless innovative extras. Some of them boast of private airports and golf courses. If you thought this was all, sample this. There are some unusual hotels too.? Treehouse hotels? Underwater hotels? Cave hotels? Ice hotels etcHotels are not far behind in records making. For example: Burj-al-Arab, Dubai, is the tallest hotel at 321 meters and the honors for being largest hotel goes to Ambassador City Jomtien with 5100 rooms at Pattaya Thailand.Source: Free Articles
